Baseball

Coach Dave Schreimann

Today we have to say goodbye to a brother, father, grandfather, friend, mentor and coach.  Coach Schreimann passed away earlier this week.  For the past several years I’ve had the great fortune to coach alongside Dave Schreimann and it’s been an experience I’ll carry with me always.  I learned more about baseball than I ever [...]

2011 Jays Baseball Trailer

2011 Jays Baseball Trailer

This project was a lot of fun… countless hours at the ball field and countless more weeding my way through the hours of video I captured to find the good bits. The video was captured with a Canon 7D, mostly shot on a tripod or monopod and assembled in Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects.

Knee deep

Knee deep

It comes around twice a year, once in the fall and once in late spring… it’s the big push.  Over the past month or so I’ve captured thousands of photos, hours of video and now it’s crunch time.  The baseball banquet is just around the corner and everybody needs pictures, videos, CDs, sounds systems, and [...]

In light of recent events

This one’s for you coach… a repost from some years ago. Minor league baseball coach loses it: http://www.philatkinson.org/minor-league-baseball-coach-loses-it

2011 Jays Baseball Photos

2011 Jays Baseball Photos

It’s been awhile coming, but you should know by now that things get pretty crazy this time of year for me… anyway, I’ve sorted through about 3000 baseball photos so far and have posted a few in the gallery.  As always, you’re welcome to download and print the files yourself or you can print them [...]

Busy April

It’s been a busy month… P90x as usual. I overhauled the ole ’70 GTO.  High compression heads, aggressive cam and everything that goes with it.  The car just screams now – not a chance it’ll hook up. Baseball galore, practice and games.  And summer softball is getting underway too. Lady Jays Pancake breakfast earlier in [...]

JC Freshman Photos

Sorry for the delay folks… I’ve run into to technical problems that are preventing me from uploading the baseball photos I’ve taken. I’m working with some folks to get it resolved, but so far no luck – hopefully soon. So stay tuned and keep checking back, we’ll get there and when we do I’ll get [...]

Baseball gets underway

It’s been a bit odd being on the “other” side of the fence, but honestly, it’s a welcome change and a good one… for the team and specifically for my son.  Sam’s hitting has finally returned – the old “Mud Dawg” hitting is what I’m talking about. While mechanics are certainly important, pounding them into [...]

Whew… 2010 JC baseball tryouts are over.

Congratulations to all who made the teams. For the incoming freshmen, whom I’ve spent a great deal of time with over the years, I’m so happy and excited for you guys. You’re going to have a blast this year and I can’t wait to sit in the stands and watch you guys play. A heart [...]

Ball season gets underway

Well as it relates to baseball conditioning, that started back in August, but kicks into high gear over the next few weeks.  What I’m referring to here is softball and the first practice of the year.  It’s nice getting back into an indoor facility and seeing all the kids hard at work, the sights, the [...]

Lady Jay’s Softball Photos

Lady Jay's Softball Photos

I finally managed to carve out a photos section on this site for the Jefferson City Lady Jays Softball teams.  Parents and players, feel free to download them as you like, if you get stuck just ask me at the games or you can email me here. This year will be different for me… as [...]

We’ll miss you Grandma

I lost my Grandmother today… she was such a huge part of my (our) lives.  And she attended more softball and baseball games than I can begin to count, always encouraging to the kids.  I think it reminded her of an earlier time and folks came to know and expect to see her around the [...]

JCBI takes 3rd at Show-Me Games

via John Haynes: The JCBI 14U baseball team took third place in the Show-Me State Games Competitive division last weekend, beating the Washington Rookies 4-3 on Sunday in Columbia. JCBI won 3 and lost 2 for the tournament. In the third place game against the Rookies Cam Carroll pitched a complete game, picking up the [...]

Congratulations JCBI 14U

Congratulations JCBI 14U

JCBI 14U took 2nd place in this weekends USSSA Missouri State Tournament. JCBI a 20 seed going into bracket play had to defeated their opponents one by one. First the 13th seed, then the 4th, 5th and 1st. In the championship game, JCBI was down 10-0 in the third, but fought back to gain the [...]

10 things that can help your season

I realize I shouldn’t shares these, but here’s a list of the top 10 things that helped us this season. Never wear a white uniform, not only does it get dirty, but it’s bad karma –burn it instead. Everyone and I mean everyone needs a lucky penny. Never wash your cap. Never drink from the [...]

An approach to baseball

Another tough game this Sunday, you might say another in a long line of anothers this season. I’ve been reading and referring to The Mental Game of Baseball, a lot this season.  It’s a great book, chocked full of “what it takes” and then backing it up with several stories from the pro’s who’ve been [...]

When lightning strikes

You just never know when it’ll happen, but it happened tonight for our boys on the ball field. We only had about half the team tonight so it was a pretty informal practice. And I mean to tell you, the boys looked like pint sized pro-ballers.  Diving plays, across the body throws, well timed double [...]

Parallels of baseball and life

Players make choices, often without realizing they’re doing so. To allow a poor approach to be repeated over and over again — one which greatly inhibits effective performance — is to make a choice, whether it is a conscious one or an unconscious one.  For example, a hitter who is confused and fustrated brings the [...]

Blah blah post follow up

OK. I figure it’s time for a follow up on my cryptic post a few weeks ago.  I got to admit, you guys are creative.  I received a few phone calls, quite a few email and a couple of comments – (no anonymity allowed on the comments if you want it approved).  Seemed like everybody [...]

New JCBI website

It took a little longer than anticipated, but the new JCBI website is online. Because of several ongoing projects at work I choose WordPress over Drupal for this website. I sort of have mixed feeling about that decision, I feel a little trapped by WordPress and miss the flexibility that Drupal offers me. Some of [...]

Hitting mechanics

A great video of Manny Ramirez’s swing mechanics narrated by former MLB catcher Don Slaught. I purchased Don’s Right View Pro software several years ago and it provides insight to a batters swing mechanics you can’t get any other way.
