Personal Responsibility!

Hey Tom Chartier – if reading Atlas Shrugged, encourages you to tie the government up in knots by electing fools, maybe it’s time to read it again! C. Bradley Thompson posted a nice piece on ARI site, America Disarmed, shortly after 9/11. I’m not sure a paralyzed strategy ever works out in the end. And I’m bothered that Mr Chartier would attempt to enlist Ayn Rand and her philosphy to suport his do nothing, hide your head in the sand approach to government and these times. To the contrary, Ms Rand would encourage us to do all we can to fight the terrorists and their oppressive ideology. Finally, today’s socialist and appeasement tendencies of the Democratic party along with the Republican fascinaion over legislating morality are hardly anything that’d make Ms. Rand comfortable. As a country founded on freedom and the pursuit of life and liberty, we must act, it is our responsibility.

On a personal note, it’s my opinion that our government has already gone too far – far beyond where Madison or the original framers intended our government to go. The task today is to roll back the clock, not progress, but rather take steps to remove government and their intrusion into our lives. My history isn’t good enough to pick the exact date, but grandparents forgive me, FDR’s “New Deal” was the beginning of the end in my view. It began a shift of self-reliance into government reliance and has slowly stripped many of us from our quest and responsibility of obtaining one’s own happiness. Far too many people today look for the government to save us. And worse, the government, thru tax collection and utter failure has so undermined personal responsibility that it’s torn a hole into the very fabric of our moral fiber and responsibly to care for one another.

The American people should take back their government – they should get involved and become educated about the issues and not sit on the couch waiting for the next commercial to form their opinion. Take responsibility! ACT! Don’t "throw the bums out" as Tom suggests – rather find out who is acting on the best interests of this country, not just for today, but for the future. At the end of the day we must have a government that acts in the interest of its people; instead of itself and not one that is simply paralyzed.
